African Union

The African Union is the continental organisation of the 55 member states of Africa. It works to promote peace, security, integration and development across the continent. It is a regional organisation that works closely with the United Nations, rather than a UN body.

Private military companies — armed groups hired for profit — have become active in parts of the Sahel and the Horn of Africa. Delegates will consider their effect on stability, accountability and the sovereignty of African states, and how the AU and its members should respond.
